Collectors and classifiers of the waste of the city of Cairo, popularly known as “Zabbaleen”, the inhabitants of the mines of Manshiyat Naser Mokattam heights. Originally rural peasant population from Upper Egypt who emigrated decades back, after having been stripped of their land. Generations later live the consequences of urban overcrowding, trading with the huge amounts of waste produced by 20 million people that the Egyptian capital hosts, rather contain.
